Diffusion of Innovation

The diffusion of innovations is ways innovation can be spread. I never knew it could be that simple and easy to have an innovation spread the way MySpace or face book did; or simply how someone can get so famous through an innovation. I never sat there and just thought about how these kinds of innovations can be spread around. I didn’t really know about MySpace, face book and what they actually were until about a year and a half ago, and I still don’t even have either one. However I know a lot of people who have had at least one of those since forever ago. Since I am not up to date with my generation, I guess I wouldn’t be categorized into any of the three groups that represent the early adopters.

This E waste issue is outrageous!

I can’t believe anyone is even allowing this to happen. It is weird how here in the U.S. we get punished for littering even if it is a little gum wrapper, but yet we dump a lot of electronics waste to other countries; it’s is kind of hypocritical of us. “The air near some electronics salvage operations that remain open contains the highest amounts of dioxin measured anywhere in the world” and we helped that happen. Even though “China has long been the world's electronics graveyard” that doesn’t mean that we should just keep dumping waste over there. The way I feel about it, is that if we wouldn’t want that crap over here than we shouldn’t be putting it over there. People like me would have dropped it off at a recycling company, but now I know that “dropping your old electronic gear off with a recycling company or at a municipal collection point does not guarantee that it will be safely disposed of.”

My Reflection On Google's Plan To Digitize Books

“Digitize Every Book Ever Printed” discussed a very controversial issue on whether Google should or shouldn’t scan books to put on the computer with or without the authors’ and publishers’ consents. There are many pros and cons to this issue, and I feel that everyone, including Google should try to at least consider them all. I really can’t exactly say how I feel on the subject, because I understand both sides to the story. Some pros that I was able to think of are: it’s another way to access books, it is a great way to make money, books can be searchable, you can download copies for free, it can be accessed throughout the world, and many books that aren’t well known(orphan books) will be put more out there. Of course like I have said, there are some cons, and these are some that came up: not fair to authors and publishers who didn’t consent, it may be more expensive for the people, it may bring competition for libraries (libraries are for the public, there for they are nonprofit organizations) and stores, or even run them out of business, Google will become a monopoly, and it may not fully protect the buyers with privacy. Luckily for me I don’t have to make the decision, but it is something I will think about.

My thoughts on Weaving the Web

Weaving the web was interesting; it kind of explained how the World Wide Web came about. It did not show exactly how it was made, but it did give me the details on how it was thought out. I think it is so crazy how Tim Berners-Lee was able to come up with that, when there were so many others who kind of had the ideas or concepts. The hypertext and the internet which is the general infrastructure that links computers together, led Tim to form one of the best things of today, and that is the World Wide Web.

What Will I Do After School?

Hi, my name is Natasia
I am finally going to graduate school this year, and I can’t wait. I am not exactly sure what I am going to do afterwards; I might just get a job. I want to save up money to get my own car and place. Maybe after I am stable I might go to college; the only thing is that I can’t make up my mind what I want to go for. At first I wanted to be a veterinarian, next a pediatrician, and then an accountant; I was thinking about culinary school, but now I have no idea what I want to do!
